What is Micro Concrete?
What is Micro Concrete?
Micro concrete is a thin layer of
cement-based material that can be applied on a variety of surfaces to achieve a
desired and decorative finish. It is ideally applied in thin layers with a
thickness that ranges from barely 2mm to 3mm.
Micro concrete is a pre-mixed,
non-shrink, cement-based material that consists of specially selected
aggregates, cement & other additives.
When traditional concrete cannot be poured, it is designed
to be used.
Micro concrete is usually used in
structural repair, renovation, or construction where high strength &
durability are required.
It repairs cracked structures without
heavy machinery, making it cost-effective and ideal for hard-to-reach spots.
1. High Strength: Micro
concrete is designed to achieve high compressive strength,
2. Non-Shrink: It is
formulated to minimize shrinkage, ensuring that it does not crack or pull away
from the substrate as it cures.
3. Followability: Micro
concrete is highly flow able, allowing it to be poured into complex shapes,
gaps or areas with limited access without the need for compaction.
4. Rapid Curing: Micro
concrete typically has a quick setting & curing time, which allows for
faster project completion.
5. Low Permeability: The dense
composition of micro concrete gives it low permeability, which can help resist
water penetration.
Applications of Micro Concrete:
1. Structural Repairs: Micro
concrete is widely used in the repair and strengthening of damaged concrete
structures, such as columns, beams & slabs.
2. Underwater Repairs: Due to
its followability and strength, micro concrete is often used for underwater
repairs of piers, jetties & other marine structures.
3. Precision Grouting: It can be
used in grouting applications where precise, high-strength placement is
required.
4. Thin Layer Applications:
Micro concrete is ideal for thin layer applications, such as overlaying
existing concrete surfaces to improve their strength and durability.
How to apply Micro
Concrete?
1. Surface
preparation
Micro concrete can only be applied when the surface is dry
and free from any grease or dirt. Prior to its application on to any surface
whether concrete or steel, it is essential to ensure that the surface is
cleaned.
2. Mixing
Micro concrete has a lesser water requirement, it is
necessary to adhere to a ratio of 1:8 of water to micro concrete while
preparing its mix. Once the water and micro concrete have been added together
they need to be stirred gradually and constantly to achieve a serviceable mix.
3. Pouring
Pouring needs to happen immediately is because waiting for
too long could result in the mixture drying up. The mixture is poured quickly
to achieve the ideal consistency and flow during application.
