WHAT IS THE EPOXY GROUTING
SADGURU WATER PROOFING
Epoxy grouts are three-component products. They consist of an
epoxy resin, a hardener, and graded aggregates. In mortar, the resin and
hardener function as an adhesive, while the aggregate acts as a filler.
In recent years, epoxy grout has become increasingly popular among
tile contractors, builders & applicator, this product provides me with new
benefits every time I use it.
Unlike cement grout, which is made
from a cementitious powder mix, Epoxy grout consists of epoxy
resins and a powder filler.
The grout is extremely durable and
almost completely stain proof. Regular grout isn’t waterproof, so unlike epoxy
grout, it can absorb water when it’s wet and stain easily.
USE OF EPOXY GROUTING
Epoxy grout is used in tile installations to fill
gaps between tiles and create an even, and durable & water proof surface.
Now days in modern era of construction tile are
common use in the house at the floor, bathroom, balcony, even in the terrace of
the house or building tile are installed for aesthetic look and even for
increase life of the construction
TYPES OF THE GROUTING
There are main three type of the grouting are
there as mentioned below
1. Cement Grouting
2. Cement based grouting
3. Chemical based epoxy grouting
As per the type of the grouting it consists its
advantages – dis advantages some are more benefits and some less & it cost
according to its performance
Let explore all three types to understand better
1. Cement Grouting
As name suggest cement grouting it basically
grout with cement mixture filling over the gap of the tile which was occurs at
the time of installation and it will lead to the water leakages at some point
of time
As this type of grouting is economical but it has
dis-advantage so it’s not recommended to the client & some of the
dis-advantages are
1. Cement grout shrinks
over time
2. Cement grout is highly porous
3. Cement grout is not last long
4. Cement grout not give the good finishing as its not
self-levelling features
5. Cement grout does not bond with tile as required
6. non-resistant to chemicals, stains, and liquids.
2. Cement based grouting
Cement Based grout is a single component product for filling tile
joints and it is the ready use product mix with only water as compared to only
cement grout It is a specially formulated premium, fast setting, low shrinkage
grout that prevents ingress of water through the joint. But still it’s not
recommended to the floor as there are more water retain over it which will lead
to the leakages it is advice to use over the wall tile joint where there is no
retain of water
Apart from the only cement grout this type has its advantage and
dis – advantage as mentioned below
Dis-advantage
1. As compared to Cement grout it shrinks lower but it
also has dis –advantage
2. Cement based grout is highly porous
3. Cement based grout also is not last long
6. non-resistant to chemicals, stains, and liquids.
Advantage
1. Its economical
2. It come with many shade and colour as compared to
cement grout
3. Chemical based epoxy grouting
Third and last type is epoxy grout which is the most
used in recent years & it become increasingly popular among tile
contractors, builders & applicator, this product will provides the new
benefits every time when it use. Epoxy grouts are three-component products
& consist of an epoxy resin, a hardener, and graded aggregates
As discuss it has more advantage over the cement & cement
based grout lt check the below
Advantage of
epoxy grout
1. It work as water proof agent
2. Epoxy maintains its durability, hence
doesn’t shrink, crack or crumble.
3. It has the self-levelling compound as does not require much
effort to level
4. Epoxy is resistant to chemicals, stains, and liquids
5. Epoxy
is non-porous
6. It
create strong bond between tile
Dis-advantage
1. It is very costly as compared to the other option
So final outcome is that epoxy the grout is extremely durable – water proof
-and almost completely stain proof. While Regular grout isn’t water proof, it
is the recommended to client
HOW TO DO APPLICATION
The application of epoxy grouts requires an experienced applicator.
It is easier to get it right the first time than to rectify issues after it has
occurred.
Below are the
recommended application methods for applying epoxy grouts
1. Clean all of the grout joints to ensure that there are no
impurities or contaminants that will impact your epoxy grout adhesion. In other
words, grout joints must be free of any dirt, dust, or standing water.

with an electric mixer.
3. Apply grout mortar with a firm rubber trowel.
